Hi, I'm Akanksha :)

Akanksha Aurora is a writer, stand-up comedian, model and Bollywood enthusiast born and raised in Mumbai, India, currently residing in Los Angeles.

Akanksha’s work brings levity to issues young immigrants face like mental health, identity fragmentation, stereotyping, performing whiteness to assimilate within the dominant culture and, well…yeah. Dating.

Akanksha’s Bollywood to Hollywood journey has been transformative, challenging and full of material - material that she’s brought to stage and screen in her performances across Los Angeles, Mumbai and Toronto, and in her writing experiences at Disney Channel, Moonbug Entertainment, Vulture and the Women’s National Book Association. Akanksha’s outspoken vibe is part “Bollywood Fleabag,” part cultural curator creating safer spaces for desi women, people of color, and the queer community to thrive in writing and comedy.

When the conversation of being a South Asian creative comes up, so does the conversation of parental and cultural expectations. As the first in her family to immigrate to the United States, Akanksha hopes to represent the power of creative expression in breaking cycles for those with similar histories and backgrounds.

Akanksha’s monthly LGBTQIA+ centered comedy showcase “Silly Cow Comedy'' is gaining buzz in the LA comedy scene. When she’s not doing standup, filming sustainable fashion looks set to 90s Bollywood music or modeling, Akanksha enjoys hobbies that cater to her introverted writer roots like puzzling, audiobooks and swiping left on himbos. It bears mentioning that Akanksha hates writing about herself in third person, so if you’re not particularly enthralled by this, she won’t hold it against you.
